After Easter Parade It’s Back to the Sixties

Brixham Does Care celebrates Easter then heads back to the Sixties

BRIXHAM DOES CARE this year managed to celebrate Easter with TWO singalongs, one online and the other LIVE in the Town Hall Function Room (pictures below).  There was a good variety of Easter Bonnets being worn, some decorated with daffodils and other spring flowers, , others with Easter eggs and tiny chicks, and one depicting the Mad Hatter. Bunny ears were popular and plenty of Easter cards could be seen, together with crosses, butterflies and a dove. Songs sung were originally recorded by Slim Whitman, Frankie Vaughan, The Monkees, Lawrence Welk, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Rod Stewart, Elvis Presley, Roger Miller, Andy Williams, Glen Campbell, Roy Orbison and The Three Degrees.

The next scheduled online Singalong is on FRIDAY 6th May 2022 at 2pm.
The theme will be THE SIXTIES.   The dress code can be ANYTHING YOU LIKE.
Look out for some weird fashion creations, fantastic hairstyles and mini skirts – and that’s just the men!
Of course, fancy dress is not obligatory.   It just adds to the fun.   Taking part is the most important thing.   If you would like details of how to join a Zoom Meeting, contact Martyn Paddon via email: violetsrest@hotmail.co.uk or by phone on 01803 851438.

Welsh Rarebits give way to Easter Bunnies

BRIXHAM DOES CARE’S latest online Singalong resembled a land of song as a tuneful welcome was kept in the hillsides stretching all the way from Devon to faraway Buckinghamshire and from Basingstoke to Wiltshire and to Wales beyond, as all things Welsh were celebrated.   Songs sung were originally recorded by Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Shakin’ Stevens, Mary Hopkins, Bonnie Tyler, Malcolm Vaughan and Dave Edmunds.   As you would expect, there were plenty of welsh flags on view, each sporting a fiery red dragon, together with red shirts and tops, plus one red nose – because the rescheduled date just happened to be Red Nose Day.   Also spotted was a beautifully crafted welsh love spoon, a sheep, some golden crowns, spring flowers, leeks, a full daffodil costume, flower decorated hats,  a train station platform ticket for  Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch – and a host of golden daffodils!

The next scheduled online Singalong is on FRIDAY 8th April 2022 at 2pm.
The theme will be EASTER PARADE.   The dress code can be ANYTHING YOU LIKE.
I guess we might see a few Easter Bonnets, some bunnies, some spring chicks and, perhaps, even some eggs – chocolate or otherwise!

Of course, fancy dress is not obligatory.   It just adds to the fun.   Taking part is the most important thing.   If you would like details of how to join a Zoom Meeting, contact Martyn Paddon via email: violetsrest@hotmail.co.uk or by phone on 01803 851438

Triple Xmas Celebrations at BDC

Brixham Does Care will be singing the blues after triple Christmas celebrations.

Brixham Does Care staged TWO socially distanced Mince Pie Christmas Singalongs in the Brixham Does Care Café in December, their first LIVE social event for 22 months.  Tickets for both events soon sold out and everyone present enjoyed two hours singing carols and Christmas songs and poetry, eating mince pies, kindly donated by Tesco, and a raffle. All washed down by a nice hot cuppa!

Nestled in between these two parties, Martyn & Josephine Paddon hosted an online Christmas Singalong, again including a handful of carols and a popular selection of Christmas songs.   Spotted onscreen were plenty of Christmas jumpers, hats, scarves and decorations, together with holly, ivy, reindeers, stars, fairies, baubles, gold rings, silver bells, earrings, stockings, Christmas trees, coloured lights, poinsettias and candy canes.  There  were TWO Santas for the price of one, complete with elves!  However, there was no sign of any partridges or a pear tree!

The next scheduled online Singalong is on FRIDAY 14th January 2022 at 2pm.

This time we shall all be singing “THE BLUES”.   Don’t worry!   That doesn’t mean we shall spend the afternoon singing morbid songs.  It’s just that the word BLUE features in the title and/or lyrics of each song selected.

Again, the dress code for our Singalong can be ANYTHING YOU LIKE.

To make it simple, why not wear or display something coloured in any shade of BLUE!

Of course, fancy dress is not obligatory.   It just adds to the fun.   Taking part is the most important thing.   If you would like details of how to join a Zoom Meeting, contact Martyn Paddon via email: violetsrest@hotmail.co.uk or by phone on 01803 851438.
